Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu, leading with purpose in eco‑conscious travel

As travellers increasingly seek deeper meaning and connection in their holidays, Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu, located in the UNESCO-designated Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve, continues to set the benchmark for eco-conscious travel in the Maldives. Seamlessly blending authentic Maldivian hospitality with measurable environmental impact, the resort appeals to today’s mindful travellers—without compromising the sense of barefoot luxury and island paradise.

Central to Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu’s sustainability journey is its long-standing partnership with the Olive Ridley Project (ORP), a globally respected marine conservation non-profit. Since establishing the Maldives’ first veterinary-led Marine Turtle Rescue Centre in 2017, the resort has treated and rehabilitated hundreds of injured sea turtles, achieving a 60% rehabilitation success rate, significantly higher than the global average. Guests are invited to witness turtle releases and participate in educational sessions led by the resident Marine Biologist, fostering meaningful engagement and a deeper understanding of marine conservation.

Marine stewardship at Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu extends beyond turtle rehabilitation. The resort actively protects approximately 34,000 square metres of seagrass meadows, critical to green sea turtle feeding grounds, shoreline stability, carbon sequestration, and fish nurseries. By safeguarding 100% of this ecosystem, the resort reinforces its commitment to preserving ocean health for future generations.

Environmental responsibility is embedded into daily operations across the island. Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu produces its own drinking water, bottled in glass to significantly reduce single-use plastics, while waste is carefully managed through structured recycling of aluminium, glass, and styrofoam. In-villa amenities are crafted from natural materials, plastic bags and bottles have been replaced with sustainable alternatives, and resort décor, centrepieces, and guest keepsakes are thoughtfully created using repurposed materials—ensuring sustainability is reflected in every detail of the guest experience.

This commitment continues at Coco Farm, where herbs, fruits, and vegetables are cultivated on the island, reducing food miles and supporting mindful sourcing. Guests experience these efforts through wholesome dining moments, from organic produce incorporated across menus to house-made jams served at breakfast.

Guided by its sustainability programme “Coco Cares,” Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu focuses on minimising environmental impact while protecting the region’s natural beauty. The initiative prioritises local employment, environmental education, reef conservation, and community engagement—core pillars that shape the resort’s long-term vision.

Recognised as Maldives’ Leading Green Resort at the World Travel Awards from 2023 to 2025, Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu invites guests to experience barefoot bliss through the Coco Celebration. Marking this achievement, the limited-time offer features up to 50% savings on villa rates, complemented by an all-inclusive meal plan, allowing guests to relax, reconnect, and fully immerse themselves in the island’s serene natural setting.
