Visit Maldives invites anglers to register for global fishing sensation BURUNU BOMA 2026

The Burunu Boma Global Sport Fishing Tournament is now officially open for registration, inviting elite anglers from around the world to compete in the Maldives’ premier sport fishing event from 13th to 15th June 2026. Organised by Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC), this flagship initiative celebrates the nation’s deep-rooted fishing heritage while promoting high-value adventure tourism.

Following the historic success of the 2025 inaugural edition, which saw intense competition and dynamic daily leaderboards featuring top-tier international teams like Team Dubai, the 2026 tournament is expected to more than double in size. The event continues to champion IGFA international standards and sustainable catch-and-release practices, ensuring the thrill of the chase remains rooted in marine conservation and sporting integrity.

The competition is a high-stakes test of skill and endurance, running daily from 05:00 to 18:30 over three full days of world-class sport. Participants will compete for a top cash prize of USD 25,000, along with prestigious titles including Champion Team, Best Captain, and Best Angler.

To secure their place on the leaderboard, last year’s winners capitalized on early registration to coordinate with local experts and master the specific migratory patterns of the Indian Ocean, a strategy that proved vital in the final standings.

With global interest at an all-time high, teams are encouraged to complete their registration through the official website starting today. The primary registration window remains open until 30th April 2026, with a final late registration period available until 31st May 2026.

The event will culminate in a vibrant cultural celebration on 16th June, featuring traditional performances and the official recognition of the world’s finest sport fishing talent. Burunu Boma has rapidly become a standout event in the global sport fishing calendar, drawing both local and international teams to the Maldives’ abundant waters.
